Astell API pricing
What the Astell API costs per unit, how it compares, and how it differs from platform tokens.
What the Astell API is
The Astell API turns unstructured data into clean text and metadata: documents, images, audio, video, web pages, and meetings go in, and structured text and metadata come out. It is a separate product from the Astell platform (the chat, search, and Loops app), with its own pricing and billing. Anyone can use the API; it is not limited to a platform plan tier.
How API billing differs from platform tokens
The API is billed in US dollars per unit processed, and it is independent of your platform token pool. Platform tokens and pay-as-you-go token rates never apply to API calls, and API usage never draws down your monthly token allocation. (For the platform side, where chat and Processed Data ingestion draw from your token pool, see What costs tokens.)
Pricing per unit
API pricing is per unit processed, in US dollars. Each row shows the price, roughly how much you get for $1, and how the price compares with a representative competitor:
What is included in each price
- Image: always downsampled to a maximum size for inference.
- Document (OCR): optical character recognition applied to scanned or image-based documents.
- Video: always resized to a maximum of 1080p resolution.
- Meeting: the recording bot price is included in the API price.
- Audio comparison: based on OpenAI Whisper API pricing.
- Meeting comparison: based on Recall API pricing, which does not include the storage or diarization that Astell includes.
Getting access
Anyone can use the Astell API; access is not tied to a platform plan tier, and it bills separately from the platform. To get access or discuss volume pricing, email founders@labtwofour.com.
